Tomato and other colors (Englewoods cliffs, 1981).

--------

The graphic designer Ivan Chermayeff died December 2 in New York where he lived since 1940, after 8 years of childhood spent in London where he was born.

In 1990, Ivan and Jane Chermayeff, responsible for the “Growing by Design” event held in Aspen, Colorado, invited the Trois Ourses to present their work as well as that of artist Roland Roure. A performance with the musician Georges Bloch had closed the event dedicated to design and to children and Seymour Chwast from the Push Pin Studio had provided communication. Links and friendships had been created.

In 1991, Jane and Ivan reconnected with Les Trois Ourses and produced two books: Premiers mots et Premières formes (J.C. Lattès, 1991) from the collections of the Museum of Popular Arts and Traditions (Musée des Arts et Traditions Populaires) in Paris. Smart, sober and new these books confirmed their interest in art education, folk art, "outsider art" and in childhood.

Thus, this recognized master of international graphics who has signed the logos of the MoMa, Smithsonian institution as well as Pan Am and Mobil (Chermayeff & Geismar & Haviv, in 1957) had accepted the invitation of the Three Ourses to exhibit his collages and his latest unpublished drawings that were published in Portugal by Bruua editions.

The Helium editions recently published “Comme un secret pour toi” or “Keep it like a secret” in english by Ivan Chermayeff and Sandol Stoddard Warburg.

Other titles await their French translation: Sun, Moon, Star that Ivan signed with Kurt Vonnegut in 1980.

Fishy Facts, Furry Facts et Feathery Facts (Harcourt Brace, 1994-1995)

Tomato and other colors (Englewoods cliffs, 1981).

"The best achievements are those that stand the test of time. While keeping in mind that nothing is eternal, nothing is forever. "

A year later his wife Jane Clark-Chermayeff passed away on July 11, 2014.

Jane and Ivan Chermayeff, as well as the late Jacqueline and Bruno Danese followed and encouraged the adventure of the Three Bears with kindness and fidelity.
